Phil Kieran single ‘Atlantic’ out 24th February from forthcoming album ‘The Strand Cinema’
‘The Strand Cinema’, a concept album by Belfast electronic music producer and composer Phil Kieran will be released later this year, preceded by brand new single, ‘Atlantic ’out 24th February on PKR (Phil Kieran Recordings)
While the album could be described as hybrid of symphonic electronica, komische or experimental mood music, Atlantic is particularly dance floor friendly. The work is reminiscent of the beginnings of acid house, evoking a dystopian or, possibly, utopian atmosphere. This is music for the head and the feet.

“Atlantic” encapsulates the various sonic worlds of music, film and DJing that Kieran is currently operating in, merging an almost euphoric dance beat layered with infectious melodies, while remaining anchored to organic sounds, as strings and percussion collide with the driving and hypnotic groove of the track.

This blend of natural and machine sounds is a feature of the entire album and A/V show which Phil created with 11 visual artists from the worlds of film, animation, architecture, computer science, generative art and contemporary dance. They have interpreted the music into visual art pieces to explore the balance between nature and technology. The Ulster Orchestra will accompany Phil in a special one-off, cinematic preview of the album A/V show at the Strand, on the 4th March.

Phil Kieran states ”The album was created from organic sounds, manipulated by machines. These machines in my studio only sound as good as the human soul and spirit I put into them. I’m not so sure that AI generated music can ever sound human.”
Kieran adds “I named the track Atlantic because it has an expansive sound with lots of rippling, dark, complex undercurrents. Then a close friend said it sounded like 808 States ‘Pacific’ and I can think of no better compliment’
